20 Secret Blogging Tips in 20 Day
“We’re halfway there” Take my hand, we’ll make it, I swear.
Check out the bottom of this post to see the rest.
Blogging for business is a business. It’s work. Hard work.
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is that they leave themselves out of their posts.
I’m not talking about a Byline or Author Box – I’m talking about your personality. The things that make you… YOU.
Think about this for a second. Do you like your Dentist? Your Hairdresser? Bartender? Let me ask you this… Is it true we tend to work with those we like?
Aside from doing the job itself, pricing aside, we tend to hire and work with those that we like. It’s a part of human nature.
But Mike, I sell generic, same as everyone else, vanilla flavored widgets, just like everyone else
That’s fine, would you like to sell more of them to happy people?
If you are blogging and interjecting some of your humor, your wit, your personality (all while delivering the message) one of two things will happen.
1. Some people will read your stuff, smile to themselves, perhaps even think to themselves – “this Mike guy is pretty sharp, I’d like to have a beer with him someday“. And then they’ll happily go about their business doing other things. Until the day it’s time for action. Let’s say they want a custom built website and they are thinking about 3 different vendors. Vendor A is a faceless corporation, Vendor B has a face and a name but is strictly business, and Vendor M has a personality that comes through in his posts. All three are priced about the same, offer the same features, and so on. Guess who they’ll contact first? Yay for Vendor M!
2. Let’s be honest. Some people will simply not LIKE you. Stop crying in your Corn Flakes. I know that makes you sad. It makes me sad too, but there’s an upside! Have you ever taken on a client only to find out you just don’t mesh? Have you ever had a client that you actually clashed with? Have you ever had a client that turned out to be a waste of time, they ended up going somewhere else? Would you like to never have that happen again? Adding your personality to the mix is actually a filter. When it comes to “action time” they’ll choose not to go with you and the best part? You won’t even know it! You’ll also not know how much time you would have wasted on them. Instead, you’ll have more time working with people who already LIKE you. Now isn’t that a great upside?
THE RECAP:
Add what makes you, you and you’ll attract clients who like you. You’ll also repel (great word, eh?) those that would never have worked well with you in the first place. That’s a WIN -WIN!
Everyone is different. For me, I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed but I do like a good pun. Often times my featured image is a play on something mentioned in my post. It might not be obvious, or maybe it is. Meet me in real like, or video chat, or pick up the phone and call me and I’m “the same person as that guy on the blog“. It makes me smile when people say that. Has that happened to you?
You know we’ve got to hold on to what we’ve got. It doesn’t make a difference if we make it or not. We’ve got each other and that’s a lot for love, for love…
