OK. So I had no idea when I wrote this post back in March that Yahoo! would think that Tumblr was so cool, so hip and so irresistible as to want to pay $1.1 billion with a B for it.

Nah. I was just thinking that it was a pretty cool place and that for people who were going to miss Posterous it would be the logical place to head. I guess there are other people who think it’s pretty cool, too. Say, Marrisa Mayer for one, who promises “not to screw it up”. There’s a great piece on Marketplace about this.

Young, Hip, Cool and Mobile

The buzz about Tumblr is that it has a ton of users that are young, hip and cool. They’re also mobile which means they need a great mobile platform. You may have heard about mobile. It’s the wave of the present.

Where this ties into real estate (or not) is that, according to the annual NAR studies on buyers and sellers, the typical home buyer is getting younger and younger and the typical Realtor is getting older and older.

We’re always getting preached to about communicating with people in their preferred mode. We are always reading blog after blog after post and status update about SEO and getting found by the very people who would purchase out services. Hey, I’m on board. Me, too.

What About Personality?

Enter Tumblr. The only problem is that most geezer Realtors (raising my hand) don’t know anything about it or how to use it to attract tons of people to follow our little micro-blog.

We’re used to the typical website with it’s IDX page and lots of keywords so people will find us for real estate.

What if we were cool, though? What if we wrote stream of consciousness stuff, posted lots of photos and followed lots of people on Tumblr who might be cool like us?

Nah. Foggedaboutit.

If you’re like me, it’s just one more thing. It’s hard enough keeping up a blog about bidding wars and curb appeal and market stats. But I’m guessing Marissa thinks there’s some juice there. $1,100,000,000 worth of juice.

Does Marissa Mayer read AreWeConnected.com?

Matt Cutts at Google talks about upcoming changes to the search engine - here's the 6 things he says they are working on

The post Upcoming changes to Google SEO appeared first on AreWeConnected.com.

Yet another post on SEO. Sorry about that. It’s relevent and timely information so it just made sense to do it now.

The video below is from Matt Cutts. You can read his original post HERE. He’s one of the three most important Matts you should know. He’s a very nice and genuine guy (I’ve met him a few times). He’s the head of Google’s Webspam Team.

Why is that important? They are the one’s who determine where site’s show up in search results amongst other things.

When Matt says something, it might be a good idea to listen.

BTW: I just noticed his site is built on an older version of Thesis for WordPress – the same thing this site was a few iterations back.

I like the way he says you should

“in terms of what you should be working on …try to make a great site that users love…”

Watch the video or cheat by reading my cliff notes ;)

Newer version of Penguin – (going deeper after black hat SEO strategies)

‘Advertorials’. Posts that are paid for but look like regular articles. They should not flow PageRank.

a few ways to deny the value to link spammers – if there’s no value to them, perhaps they’ll stop?

Hacked sites – detect them better and communicate details better to webmasters

Softening Panda – if you were effected by Panda and shouldn’t have, perhaps this is good news. Interesting that they are getting tougher on Penguin and softer on Panda.

Overall more information to webmasters.

Not sure what a Penguin or Panda is? Here’s a post on Panda and Penguin.

In the end – just create great content, have a site your users love and you’ll do fine.
