This is the 4th in the series of (we’re on a roll!)
20 Secret Blogging Tips in 20 Days!
Pay no attention to man behind the curtain (creating the order in which these appear), he’s clearly delusional. Check out the bottom of this post to see the rest.
What’s your name? That’s right. Who are you? I know that you know who you are – but do your readers?
Up at the top of the post there’s a little author tag. It’s called a byline. It comes from the newspaper industry. Back in the day getting your article written with a byline was a very big deal. That was then, this is now. You are the boss right? Go ahead and make yourself a big deal. Give yourself a Byline!
WARNING: If you ‘casually’ setup your blog, your byline could be your login name (really!). I see plenty of “by Admin” bylines and that makes me sad.
Why So Sad?
Do you realize that most unchanged bylines are actually leaking the ADMIN usernames to hackers? Now, all the hackers have to do is guess your password and chances are it not hard to do.
To change yours just head to your dashboard, under Users, Your Profile you’ll see this:
See that dropdown “Display name publicly as”? That’s your byline setting.
Hint: If you want it to say something other than your first and last name – just change your name to what you want it to say.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t change your name to something like JOHN SMITH, THE BEST REALTOR IN THE TRICOUNTY AREA (555) 555-1234
Next up – we’ll tackle the Author Box(es)!

If that isn't enough, he makes cheese and sourdough bread, loves strong beer and good red wine, and poorly plays the Mandolin.
