Turn off the Facebook Notification ‘BeeBoop’

Facebook recently updated the website and made a few changes.  I’m not sure if it was intentional, but they turned on the notification ‘Bee-Boop’ for everyone.  Like a smoke detector with bad batteries in a white trash trailer, some people seem to not even notice it.

For me, that BEE-BOOP was driving me crazy.

It looks like it was bothering my friend Patrick too!

Patrick says...

HOW TO TURN OFF FACEBOOK NOTIFICATION SOUNDS

If you want to turn off your NotificationBook it’s really pretty easy.  Head over to your Notification Settings Page.

click this image to go there

Once there, click on the View button.  The next screen has a simple check box to UNCHECK.

and click save

And then click the SAVE button of course.

Now you’ll once again be able to meditate peacefully in Facebook Zen Silence
(zazen, shikantaza, or sesshin – it’s up to you).

You are welcome!  Om!

By the way, best answer to Patrick’s dilema goes to Jeff Belonger who said, doh!

Well done my friend. This was bugging the hell out of me. My wife actually thought I was playing video games in my office with all the noise. I had to actually let her stand there and wait for the beeps to go off so she could see I wasn’t. This may be one of my least favorite “enhancements” facebook has made to the platform in some time. It’s almost shameless how badly they want you on there to get exposed to their advertising – which doesn’t work. :-)

Sort of like the noise Outlook makes when mail comes in. Luckily, I figured this out pretty quickly. Facebook just keeps making these wonderful “enhancements”. That’s what happens when you give a 20-something kid a billion bucks and no bedtime.
