WordPress.org just launched the latest version 4.5 If you want to jump the gun, you can get it right here if your site doesn’t show the update yet.
What’s different?
A few things like
- Native support for a theme logo
- Selective refresh
- Better editing of inline links
- Better shortcodes for certain items
- Better image compression
- Better script loading
Here’s a quick video
Introducing WordPress 4.5 “Coleman”
Pretty cool, eh?
Ok, so if you’ve been reading my site for any length of time you know what I’m going to say next.
Step One: Always BACKUP before you update anything. Not just your posts but your code too!
Step Two: Take a deep breath, sit back and don’t do anything just yet. It’s ok. You don’t need the latest and greatest right now. There’s also no security risk for this one while you wait. Let the gazillions of WordPress sites update and find any bugs, let those bugs get fixed and let the plugin and theme developers get their updates together and then think about updating.
When you are ready, backup your site and then start with updating all the plugins, then the themes and then the core WordPress 4.5 itself. When you do, don’t be surprised if you’ll see new updates for plugins and themes – that’s to be expected.
Need help with stuff like this? I’m for hire! 🙂
