My friend Drew happened to notice today that he has been writing posts since August 2006.
That’s a bunch of posts! Great Job Drew!
That got me to wondering… So I went over to the Wayback Machine and it has records of me back in April of 2001
The blog wasn’t even on the front page – it was buried deep within the site. Don’t look for that site, it’s LONG gone. I let it expire when I left the industry. I know I started that site long before 2001 but there’s no accounting for when the Wayback Machine started to take notice. My best guess would be 1999 as I remember I got in on a new .php thing from Pyra Labs that was pretty cool – it was the start of blogging. Prior to that I was creating websites using just plain old html.
Back to Pyra Labs
The little company ran out of money and if I remember right I coughed up $100 for new servers or something to keep them afloat. Soon after, they were bought by another little company (but slightly larger) called Blogger. You might remember that Blogger was then later bought by a slightly larger company called Google.
That guy I sent a check to at Pyra? His name was Evan.
Sometime after he was bought out, he started another little company called Twitter, maybe you’ve heard of it?
That’s a true story! But the point should be made – we all have to start somewhere. If you started yesterday that’s ok! Got a few years behind you? Fabulous!
Heck, with all the pseudo microblogging distractions out there – starting a full fledged blog today deserves a pat on the back!
Speaking of which… I build Custom WordPress Websites for a living. I teach people to use the cool tool once it’s built. I’d be happy to build one for you!
To me, one of the best, yet hidden aspects of blogging is the friends and relationships it’s helped create. I met Drew through blogging, knew him for a while before finally meeting IRL back in 2008. I pleased to follow his every word he writes as he travels the globe and even happier when we meet face to face!
So how long have you been blogging?
How many relationships has it started for you?
