If you know me, you know I’m not a fan of marketing. Not you and me marketing our stuff, it’s the big marketing department kind of stuff I don’t like.
Simply. If there’s a good app or tech thingy out there, the marketing people will figure out a way to screw it up for the rest of us. (Have you seen your twitter stream lately?). In my opinion, marketing has screwed this whole Thanksgiving thing. I don’t participate in Black or Cyber. It’s not ThanksGetting after all.
I was editing a post for FresYes.com and ran across this string…
“Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. Cyber Monday.”
In it, the author discussed #GivingTuesday and how local residents could give back to their community. Giving Tuesday? Yup! It’s a real effort, well organized, in it’s 4th year, with a real website!
The post got me to thinking…
I don’t discount my services for a Black Friday kind of thing. Chances are you wouldn’t either. We’re not in that kind of retail business, right? Besides, to be totally honest, cash is kind of tight these days around here.
But I want to give back. In particular, one of my favorite charities is Cycle For Survival. You see, Cancer runs deep in my family. Very deep. I’ll get into more later but 100% of the donations go directly to Rare Cancer Research. 100%! How cool is that?
Here’s what I’m offering…
From right now till midnight on Tuesday – instead of the money you would have paid me for one of my products or services, make a donation for the same amount to Cycle For Survival instead.
You get a great WordPress website (or Facebook App).
You spend the same amount you would have, but you also give back in a huge way.
Our big Cycle For Survival event is February 27th in San Francisco so I haven’t really started the fundraising yet but why not start now?
Last year, I rode every single day and shot a video for each day. 41 days in a row! I’m really proud the way they turned out. Watch them all or just a few.
Here’s the playlist from last year.
It doesn’t matter if you want a single page website (great for running as a squeeze page too) or a full blown website with every bell and whistle. If you want it, let’s do it!
You can help!
Even if you don’t need a website you can still play a part. Share this post (right now) with your friends. Tag someone who you know needs a website (or website work). Sharing is caring and together we can do some real good.
Does that sound good?
Ok, let’s make it better. What is your favorite charity? Give me a link to them and I’ll push that out to all my friends and followers too.
Ok, just a little more on why Cycle For Survival is special:

- Rare cancers include brain, pancreatic, ovarian, thyroid, and stomach cancers; leukemia and lymphoma; all pediatric cancers; and many others.
- 100% of funds raised go directly to research.
- Funds are allocated within six months of the events.
- $76.5 million has been raised by Cycle for Survival to date.
- Cycle for Survival has directly contributed to 100+clinical trials and research studies.

Ok, so who do you know that needs a new (or revamped) website? Let’s do this!
