IFTTT Recipes for Small Business

I’m a big fan of the service IFTTT.  I’ve written how you could use it ‘personally’ before but I just came across (via Square) a list of recipes just for the Small Business!

They put together 18 here.  Out of the 18, here’s a few I really like.  Even if these don’t exactly work for you they could provide the inspiration for you to create something of your own!

IFTTT Recipe: Remind your employees to turn in monthly timesheets connects date-time to yammer

My wife does the payroll for her company and I know how big of an issue late timecards or timesheets creates.  It’s a snowball effect if you are working with a payroll company as those reports have to be in on time or nobody gets paid. No Employees? I run a small business with 1 employee (me) and could use this as a reminder to remember to get my monthly invoices together. This recipe uses a calendar and Yammer to make it work.  Don’t use Yammer?  Adapt it to whatever you do use.

IFTTT Recipe: Add an event at 7am close windows & prepare umbrellas when tomorrow's forecast calls for rain connects weather to google-calendar

Have a business that changes with the weather?  I like this one.  Using the Weather Channel and Google Calendar you can modify the settings to create an event.  That event could be something like they suggest or something quite different.  Let’s say you have the perfect blog post on “5 tips to prepare your home for sale in the Fall”. It’s sitting in draft mode and you are wondering when that perfect time to post would be.  How about a reminder for when the next time you see a big dip in the temps?  Can you see how that could that work for you?  That works a little like this coffee one.

IFTTT Recipe: When it drops below 60°F outside get a text to prepare more hot coffee connects weather to sms

You could combine the two to get exactly what you want.

Here’s my favorite.  I’m using Square for quite a lot of things these days (like invoicing clients).  I also use Google Docs. While I can go into Square and generate a report, having that info at my fingertips in Google is pretty cool

IFTTT Recipe: Any new payment accepted via Square adds a row to a spreadsheet connects square to google-drive

What do you IFTTT and how do you use it in your business?

He's an avid hockey fan, rides a mountain bike, sometimes rides a road bike, has a few motorcycles (he had a really fast one, bought a cool orange one, rode a really slow one, and now,a perfect "BDR Weapon"). If that isn't enough, he makes cheese and sourdough bread, loves strong beer and good red wine, and poorly plays the Mandolin.

Who to host with?

It's the #1 question I'm asked - where to find inexpensive shared hosting. Here's who I recommend.
Data Servers are a HUGE drain on the power grid. Here's a host that sources 300% of it's power from Wind and Solar! On top of that, their service ROCKS!
Check out GreenGeeks

Need more power?

WPEngine has it!
