Somehow I get thousands of people visiting my site each month. Some of them come from LIKEs and Shares they see in the their Facebook stream. Some of them From Twitter, Linkedin, and even Google Plus (yeah that network).
I also have a HUGE amount of visitors from various Google Searches in which I rank reasonably well.
I hope to make a lasting impact on every person who happens to stop by. I also hope they come back on a regular basis. I realize most people are not ready to click on one of my Calls to Action but I hope when they are ready, they’ll think of me and come back.
HOPE IS A FOUR LETTER WORD
Especially when it comes to marketing. No marketing person I know wants to rely on ‘HOPE’. I certainly can’t rely on hoping you remember my URL or blog name when the time is ready.
Here’s my secret weapon. My Newsletter. Simple as that.
My Newsletter goes out to each subscriber every morning when there’s a new blog post. It’s automatically pulled from my sites RSS. I use MailChimp (free up to 2,000) and make sure everyone on the list has double opt in. It arrives in their inbox, on their phone, or desktop, or any other place they get email.
When they open it I have my branding, a teaser snippet of the post, an intriguing image related to the post and a link to read more.
I also have a specific Call to Action in the email and a link to the previous post(s) they may have missed.
Of course there’s also an easy UNsubscribe link (that works) but few do, as they double opted in to begin with.
To make it sweeter, I have a secret little link at the bottom to reward the few that actually read that far.
It’s a pretty slick system and it works. It works because I’m not trying to game the system. I’m simply delivering my content to a place they will get it, in a timely manner. I write real stuff for real people and because of that the two important metrics people look at are doing pretty good too.
OPEN RATE: When you send out a newsletter do people open it and read it? If they did, that’s a click in the Open Rate column. Yay for you! My newsletter list is currently running an Open Rate double what the industry standards are.
CLICK THRU RATE: When someone opens the email, do they click to read more? Hopefully they do. If they do, add one for the Click Thru Rate column. Once again, I’m clicking higher than the industry averages. That’s a good thing.
So the Newsletter is my way of getting my content to the people on a regular basis. It’s lead capture. It’s also my incubation system. Like I mentioned before, I know you may not be ready to jump on my call to action. My Newsletter is keeps us in touch, keeps my top of mind, until you are ready. Does that make sense?
NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS GET YOU TO SIGN UP
And for that, I have a secret weapon or two but that’s the NEXT POST.
