It’s no secret that I LOVE Guest Posts on AreWeConnected.com!
I also love to write Guest Posts on other peoples blogs.
To the Writer, guest posts mean getting your content, your face, and your name out to a whole new sphere of people. Exposure is a good thing. Most sites, this one included, will let you link back to your Home Base using the anchor text as you like. The SEO people will tell you how good that is for you in Google – and they are right. Guest Posting can have a major impact on your site in the search results. The smart marketing person will have regular Guest Posting as a part of their business plan.
To the Reader, the guest post offers a different point of view, a different voice, something new and refreshing (we hope).
To the Blog Owner, the guest post is free content. It’s a small reprieve from the daily grind of trying to come up with something meaningful to write. It’s like getting to the toll gate only to find out the driver ahead of you just paid for your toll. It’s ok to let out a ‘wheeeeee!‘ when that happens. I do.
Here’s the thing. I have a set of rules. You want to play in my sandbox you have to play by my rules. I get quite a few requests to Guest Post and to tell you the truth 99% of them are from those Fakes, Spammers, Gamers and Link Whores. Really. They want gain entrance to my site and use it for their own evil purposes. Sometimes they are tough to spot (see the video below). It’s hard to know who to trust.
Here’s my thought.
There’s about 100 people out there I trust. I know who they are inside and I can whole heartedly recommend them as a Guest Blogger to anyone’s site. I trust them. A ‘here, hold my wallet, I’ll be back in an hour’ kind of trust.
Those 100 people in turn have around 100 people they know and trust in the same manner. Some of our spheres will certainly have overlap. That’s ok. And then there is the time and energy factor. We’re all busy as can be. Not everyone has the time to guest post or may even want to. So my list of 100 might really turn out to be 5 or 10.
I propose starting a group on Facebook. A ‘secret’ group. A ‘hard to get into’ group. A group where you can look for people to write a post and look for places to write a post. A group where ideas for posts and post strategies can be openly shared.
A place where real human beings can gather around a singular topic and help each other.
This is not a Link Exchange Group. This would not be a place for selfish people. If you are a “Taker” – we don’t need you. Conversely, it’s not about giving either. It’s a 2 way street. Not interested in writing on other blogs? This group isn’t for you.
Guest Posting is a win, win, win but only when you have that trust. This group would be a place to start.
Ok, the truth is, I already started that group! Want in?
How NOT to Guest Post
I blame my friends Drew Meyers and Lesley Lambert for getting me thinking about this.
Like the idea? Why not start your own group?
