There’s a few things that make a Custom Facebook Page special. One is the fact that Pages are the only thing that are indexed by Google (or other search engines). Yup! not your Profile, not Groups, and not Events – only Pages! Another is the fact that they can be run anonymously by a team.
But the best aspect of having a Facebook Page is the ability to set a default landing tab. In plain english, that means you can determine which of your page tabs anyone who has not yet LIKE’d your page or is not signed in to Facebook sees first. That’s any tab – Wall, Info, or better yet, a custom built landing tab.
Just having a landing tab isn’t enough, it need to be set as the Default Landing Tab by the Page Admin. This is very simple.
Step One: Go to your Page and find the “Edit Page” button (top right of the wall is always a good place to look for it)
(Find it and click it)
Step Two: Navigate to your Manage Permissions Tab on your Page Dashboard. (It’ll usually go straight there) In the drop down you’ll see all the tabs you have on your page. Choose the one you want to set as the Default Landing Tab and click the Save button at the bottom. That’s all there is to it!
Problems?
“The Tab I wanted to set wasn’t there”
If the Tab you wanted to set wasn’t in the drop down – first make sure it’s been added to the page. You’ll only be able to choose from the apps that have been added to the page.
“When I go to my Page I go straight to the Wall – this doesn’t work!”
It’s not broken. No matter what Tab is set as the Default Landing Tab, Facebook will always take a Page Admin (that’s you) to the Wall.
“How can I check to see if my Landing Tab is set then?”
Easy. Two ways. 1. Have a non admin friend who has not yet like’d the page try it and let you know what happens. 2. Copy the URL of your Page (as in http://www.facebook.com/MikeMuellerConsulting) now logout and reopen Facebook in a new browser window. You should go directly to your Default Landing Tab. There is one caveat to remember. If you use a secure login you might accidentally grab your secure page URL (as in https://www.facebook.com/MikeMuellerConsulting) and that won’t work – fix it by just removing the s.
