Good news from Facebook. You, the small business owner, will soon be able to run promotions on Facebook! Giveaways, Competitions, Sweepstakes, and Contests – yippee!
Doesn’t sound like big news?

It used to be that if you wanted to hold a contest on Facebook you either had to spend $10,000 on advertising (really) or use an approved App (see: How to hold a contest on Facebook ).
According to AllFacebook.com and InsideFacebook.com any page can now run a contest on their own but remember, they still have to follow the rules…
What rules? Here’s a whole Gaggle of them http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php
I’m waiting for them to update to the doc but don’t expect to see a change in points like
4.2 In the rules of the promotion, or otherwise, you will not condition entry to the promotion upon taking any action on Facebook, for example, updating a status, posting on a profile or Page, or uploading a photo. You may, however, condition entry to the promotion upon becoming a fan of a Page.
I can guarantee that contests will spring up everywhere, “post on our wall to enter the drawing” and guess what? That’s going to still be wrong and who wants to lose their page over a silly contest?
