Hey! It’s been a while, but 2 Minute Tuesdays is back!
This week, I answer a question from one of my clients, Marie, who said she liked this format that I was doing and wondered how to do something similar on her site in either video or audio. What a great question and a perfect topic for 2MT – Let’s Do This!
For the non listeners here’s a recap.
Yes! This would be a great idea to incorporate into your site. Speaking first about the video side…
VIDEO
It doesn’t matter what kind of video you are creating. It could be screen capture, a talking head style or something from your GoPro, edit and then upload to your YouTube Channel.
SIDENOTE: What I didn’t mention in the podcast was, that this is also a great SEO play if you do your YouTube part correctly, this video could show up in search results and drive traffic back to your site – but that’s another topic for another day.
Once your video is uploaded, you can then embed it back on your site into a blog post. We do this because these files are large and we don’t want to weigh down our hosting server and YouTube does an excellent job of streaming to devices.
Don’t stop there though. Make sure you also use text to better explain what your video is covering (just like I am doing here). Some people are going to gravitate to the video and some are going to go straight to the text, right?
BONUS: I would also create a playlist in your YouTube Channel for this series. Add each to the playlist as you record new ones. Once you have a few I can build a code snippet that automatically pulls in the videos into a player and so we can collect them all on a single page. (like I did for Jason)
If you need help setting up your YouTube Channel, Playlist or stuff like that, I’m happy to help, just ask!
AUDIO:
Think of audio as much of the same. I create and edit the file I want and upload it to a streaming service, then come back an embed it into a blog post.
While audio files are much smaller than video files, we want to use something other than our hosting server to stream the content.
Here’s how I create and edit this podcast.
I start with my Yeti Blue Mic. It plugs into my MacBook Pro’s USB port.b Don’t get me started on how Apple removed ports a few years ago and is now planning on adding them back.
I record directly into a program (free!) that is called Audacity. It’s available for Windows, Mac or Linux, and did I mention it was free? I clip and cut and edit and add backing tracks just like you might video, just with sound files.
Next, I export it as a .mp3 file and then upload that to a site called Libsyn. Think of them like YouTube but for audio. They are much more than that but I’m keeping it simple here. Libsyn isn’t free but I believe I use the cheapest plan and it’s fine for what I need.
Once the file is uploaded into Libsyn I can then get a script to embed it on my site. Just like the video, I embed the player into my post and then write some engaging words.
I CHALLENGE YOU!
Now that you know HOW to do it, the hardest part is actually doing it. I challenge you to get started. If you need help, just ask, but really you can do it! Once you have 3 done in your series, let me know and I’ll feature it here!
I can’t create your content for you, but you can hire me to do the rest. I don’t advertise this but I edit and produce podcasts for others all the time.
