First of all, if you are putting on a REBarCamp in your area… Major KUDOS to you! It’s a lot of hard work. Luckily there are quite a few people who have done what you have done.
One of the hardest things for some might be the RSVP system. You can use an outside system like Eventbrite if you like. Thanks to the hard work of others that have gone before you there’s also an “inside” system that combines the wordpress blog, cForms plugin and some cool scripting by Dan Green.
Attendees are asked to fill out a simple form
When they click on the submit button the magic happens. Some of the content is then automatically written to a “Who’s Coming” page. Their name is also a link to their website, if they entered their Twitter ID it will show, distance is determined by their zip code, and then of course what ever they placed in the “Say something cool” box.
You’ll also not that it tracks the available spots!
But wait, there’s more!
Behind the scenes, event organizers can easily delete duplicate content and at any time download the entire database file into an excel file. From there you can use that data to order shirts, send out reminders and print out hard copies for your registration table people.
Still seem a little daunting? Don’t worry! If you are putting on a REBarCamp in your area I am happy to help by creating the blog, modifying the theme, setting up the RSVP system above and of course creating a matching Custom Facebook Page for the event. Gratis of course – it’s my way of giving back to the community.
And by the way – don’t forget to thank Dan Green!
