How to Block “The Ville” on Facebook

Facebook Apps can do some pretty cool things.

They can also be used for Evil.  Ok, maybe not evil in the biblical sense, but they can do some crappy spammy things – mostly to your friends.

Good or Evil, most Apps tell you exactly what access they’ll have once you approve the App.  While we might see that access list, most all of us usually blow right by it (like the Terms of Service) – what they are not so good at doing is telling you what they’ll do with that access.

The Ville is just one of the latest to come around.  It’s from Zynga.  I’ve noticed quite a few “requests” from friends recently.
Remember when Game or App requests were inserted right in your stream?  Thank you Facebook for removing them.  Today, they are gone from the stream but will still show up in my notifications.

It’s easy to ignore a single request but when a game or app becomes popular it isn’t a matter of a single request – it could be hundreds.  I don’t take the time to block every App, just the ones that appear to have that ‘Request Distraction” factor.

Here’s how to BLOCK The Ville  (or any app for that matter)

Sadly, The Ville is just one in a series of new games coming from Zinga.  Block this one today, and they’ll announce the next one tomorrow.  :(

Want to see an truly EVIL APP?  Read the description of this one.  I found it on a GROUP in Facebook.

Read more about it here: Groups Gone Wild (or bad)  Now THAT is pure evil!

Great video and a huge public service. I have been getting “Ville” requests left and right and I’ve just been hitting cancel.

For some reason, I had to got through and extra click or two to get to the app so I could block it. I got there, though, and “Good-bye, Ville”.

Yay Ken! I realized just afterwards that some apps don’t work the same (blocking wise) as the Ville. There’s a straighter shortcut to get there for any app ( just go to http://www.facebook.com/appcenter/requests ) – so I need to shoot another video for that.
