Convert your Profile to a Page?

So you joined Facebook in the hopes of getting more business.  Matter of fact, all of your Facebook action is about business.  You are a Facebook Marketing Machine.  Until yesterday.  That’s when someone pointed out that using your Profile was a violation of the Terms of Service.  Terms of Service?  Who reads that?

Screaming
Today you’re thinking you shouldn’t have added all those ‘leads’ as friends when you should have created a Page instead.

“Can I just move them to a Page?”

Well, yes and no.

You can migrate your Profile (soon to be called your timeline) to a Page by going here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?migrate

Everyone who was a FRIEND will now become a LIKE.

“When you convert your profile (timeline) to a Facebook Page, we’ll transfer your profile pictures and add all of your friends and subscribers as people who like your page.”

Sounds pretty slick eh?  Ah, but hold on to your britches…

The new page will also be classified as a ‘Business Account’.  Who cares?  Ok, I’ll bite, what’s that?

“Business accounts are designed for people who only want to use Facebook to administer Pages and run ad campaigns. For this reason, business accounts do not have the same features as personal accounts. Business accounts have limited access to information on Facebook-when using a business account, you can view all the Pages and Social Ads you own, but you will not be able to view profiles (timelines) or content owned by other people. Business accounts cannot be found in a search, and the owner of the account will not be able to send or receive friend requests.”

Additionally, what happens in a business account does not show up in any feed outside of the page itself.

So does converting your Profile to a Page still sound yummy?

Why not keep the Profile, start a Page and then politely ask your ‘friends” to like the new page?*

* assuming you already have a default landing tab setup first – right?

HEY SKIMMERS: (like those people who push buttons before reading the entire post are actually going to get this far down the post.)  Did you already convert before getting to the RED part?  Big ooops?  Did your short attention span just bite you in the a$$ again?  Want to get your profile back?  Here’s your link:

There should be in your profile settings (check the gear thingy) a link to undo the timeline BUT soon everyone will get timeline no matter what.  Might as well get used to it now.  Sorry.
