Google Buzz

Back in 2001 I started officially blogging using the Pyra Labs platform.

They became Blogger.com and were bought by Google. The blogger platform is easy to use and can be hosted or not. I teach beginning bloggers to use the blogger.com platform because of it’s simplicity.

Blogs on the Blogger platform:

I think Wordpress is by far the best platform around. The number of plugins available is incredible. There’s a wordpress (theme) design for every taste. This is a wordpress theme.

Here’s a twisted tale for you… When I first created Suburban Renewal I found a WP theme I really liked. I adapted the theme and created a website first. Since the site was originally going to be used by many non technical types I had to adapted a blogger.com platform and embedded it into the WP theme. It’s still up and running here. http://www.suburban-renewal.com/news/ssnews.html

Then the original operation changed and it became clear that I would be the sole user. Frustrated with the limitations of blogger.com, I added the original wordpress blog as well ( Confessions of a Short Sale Negotiator ). This may the first instance where a WP Theme was used to create a website with a fully functional Blogger.com and then added a WP platform inside! (actually there are 7 different blogs under the Suburban-Renewal.com umbrella)

Blogs on Other Platforms:

That’s the Push, now here’s the Pull

Putting relevant content out there is only half the equation.

For me, one of the best things about blogging is reading other blogs. Interacting with others. I love to reach out to those that I find interesting, those that I connect to. That connection starts by reading there blogs. The problem is that there are way too many blogs I like and I could spend all day looking each URL up and checking out to see what’s new.

I now have identified over 200 blogs I really like to read.

RSS (Real Simple Syndication) solves that problem. Every blog, by design also publishes a RSS feed. I can take that feed and send it to my Feed Reader (I use the Google Feed Reader ).

Now I have all my favorites in one location. I can set up folders and filters. Google allows me to share my collection or just a folder if I like with you.

"Sharing is Caring "

Out of the 200+ I read daily, these few are the ones I feel you should read.
