Your 1st Bike?

Do you remember your first bicycle?

If you were an underprivileged kid growing up perhaps there never was a first bike.  That’s a shame.

That’s also something that Mark Reynolds thought he could do something about.  An avid rider himself, Mark would collect money from his riding friends each year to build and buy kids their first bicycle.

Then, on January 8, 2004 tragedy struck.  Mark was killed by a mountain lion while riding on a trail near his home.  That same animal attacked and seriously injured a woman who was also riding that day, Anne Hjelle.  (“seriously” is an understatement).

Although Mark is no longer with us, his legacy and passion for biking and giving continues through the Mark J. Reynolds Memorial Bike Fund.

Today, it’s my honor to talk to Anne.  We’re not going to talk so much about the horrifying incident, but about the good work that she does every single day!  Although she never knew Mark personally she’s become a big fan, supporter and spokesperson for what he was doing.

  • Mike - I know Dona Reynolds (Mark's mom) from ActiveRain. I remember that she wrote about this awhile back in an effort to spread awareness for the cause.
