I know you are thinking the next word should be Vegas and yes, what happens in Vegas usually stays in Vegas (unless we’re talking STD’s or BlogWorld afterparty pictures).
No, I was thinking more in terms of Facebook and specifically Facebook Groups. You see, what happened in a Facebook Group stayed within it’s walled off confines. If you joined a group, you’d have to be in the group page to see what was happening. Facebook Groups had no “social reach”. That’s past tense, almost.
According to the Facebook Blog:
… group activities, which previously only appeared in the group, will now be delivered to your News Feed. To ensure that you get the most interesting and relevant content from groups you’ve joined, you only will see stories when one of your friends posts within a group rather than when all members post.
So while groups just made a giant leap towards that social reach, you have to understand that FB also decided to reign them in by limiting what get’s broadcast to your News Feed.
One more thing… Before you get ready to jump on the Group bandwagon there’s one more thing you need to know. Groups are for causes, not products. Selling something in a Group can get you banned.
Keep in mind that while Groups and Pages now look the same, they still serve different purposes. Groups are for fostering member-to-member collaboration, while Pages remain the best way to broadcast messages to your fans if you are a business, organization, public figure or other entity.
Welcome Back! - You've been missed! : )
