How do you realistically follow along with thousands of twit followers? You can’t.
That tweet stream is not really a “stream”, more like “Twitter Rapids”.
I’ve showed you how to pull a few of your closer friends out from the rapids and place them in a slower moving tidal pool (userlist) by using applications like Seesmic Desktop and Tweetdeck.
See: http://areweconnected.com/2009/06/how-do-you-follow-that-many-people/
Now you have that option to do the same thing with Twitter on the web.
Login to twitter and you’ll soon see this at the top.
Follow the directions and soon you’ll have your very own slowly moving trickle of friends (and a quickly moving stream of everyone else).
But here’s something you can do with Twitter that you cannot do with the other applications.
You can share your list!
That means instead of blasting out 4 peeps in a #FollowFriday manner, you could actually build meaning into a group.
Imagine tweeting, “Here’s my favorite tech twits list” or “Here’s my favorite interior designers twits list”. How cool would that be? I propose we also start using the hashtag #mylist (let’s see if that catches on)
I started working on my Favorite 100 Peeps last night. Here’s how I did it.
You can find my list by going to http://twitter.com/MikeMueller and looking on my sidebar.
It has a URL too: http://twitter.com/MikeMueller/my-100
Do you have a list? if you do – please share it!
