A customized image that links to a particular page not only is a great way to accessorize your blog, it’s also a great way to drive traffic to lesser known or pages. Facebook Pages are hard to promote because most automated profile systems only allow for the Facebook Profile link structure. I haven’t seen an online widget builder that included the ability to add a Facebook Group or Page.
Susie Blackmon is into horses. Follow her on twitter and you’ll know it’s no surprise there.
She has a few sites going and wanted to somehow tie them all together. Her primary site is a beautifully designed Wordpress site called Horsealicious . It had a great header and beautiful background sidebar that pieced together.
For the feel of her custom widgets she wanted something that continued the same feeling for each link but was also easily identifiable. I took the Sidebar image and stitched it to the Header image, reduced it down to a smaller size and added a small background drop shadow.
She also has a Breaking News Horse site that pulls in content from twitter and posts it on a scrolling page.
That of course needed it’s own widget.
She also wanted a Custom Facebook Business Page to better capitalize on the immense power and demographics of Facebook. I created a custom designed Page for her Horsealicious concept and a matching widget to go with it. I created an RSS pull for the page so that anything she posts to either of her sites will automatically post on her RSS tab. For right now, anything she posts to Horsealicious will automatically show up on her wall.
So now, with the appropriate buttons on each of her sites, you can easily navigate from one site to another.
Now if Horses only came with Handlebars…
