I want to be your new Director of Social Media!
My name is Mike Mueller.
I’ll bet your corporation does not have a Director of Social Media.
I believe it should.
Of course, I also believe I am the perfect person for the job!
While the position and field are new, I have almost 10 years of experience.
In the next 2 and a half minutes I’m not going to be able to convince you to hire me. There’s just too much information to cover. What I will do is introduce a couple of key concepts like Social Reach and Conversational Marketing.

There’s a conversation happening out there right now. About your company, on Twitter, Facebook, Yelp and Blogs – are you listening? Remember, these are not private conversations that happen between one or two people. They are in open forums and because of the power of Social Reach that audience can be in the thousands or millions!
What might a Director of Social Media do? Here’s a couple of ideas…
- Spearhead and implement organizational social media strategy to ensure unity and integration of social networking activity/approach across the organization.
- Monitor community participation and behavior to capture data and, in association with market research, interpret efficacy of existing tactics.
- Conduct extensive and ongoing market research on social networking and virtual community trends, behavior, products, and sites.
- Direct the evaluation and appropriate application of social networking/community tools for the corporation.
- Define appropriate and efficient workflows/tactics.
- Serve as resident expert and liaison with other divisions to assist them in utilizing these media appropriately and effectively.

- Training their sales staff as well as being a resource for their clients.
- Develop, maintain and adapt the Corporate Social Media Policy.
- Introducing emerging technology to the corporation.
- Monitoring brand awareness and online reputation.
- First line of customer response.
- SMO & Strategic Planning.
- Tracking and Metrics.
Optional:A consultation role with either a Local or National doing much the same.
- This could be a one time presentation, a series of presentations, or an ongoing contract.
